Committee on Lectures and Cultural Events

Welcome to the Wellesley College CLCE

The Committee on Lectures and Cultural Events (CLCE) is a multi-denominational, multi-constituency committee made up of faculty, staff, students, and administration. The Committee sets policy and administers endowed funds to support lectures and cultural events that enhance the intellectual and cultural life of the Wellesley College community.

Classroom Lecture Funding

http://www.wellesley.edu/clce/lectureapplication

CLCE provides funds for honoraria for guest lecturers.  Faculty members may have no more than 2 guest lectures per academic year, and the total cost of guest lecture(s) may not exceed $500.  Please note honoraria will not be awarded to anyone currently on the Wellesley College payroll (i.e, staff or faculty). The application must be received before the scheduled lecture.

Please send hard copies of these forms via interoffice mail to Susan Lange, Provost Office, Green Hall Room 348:

  • Application for Classroom Lecture

  • Check request form (please leave FOAPAL fields blank)

  • Signed new vendor form

CLCE General Event Funding

http://www.wellesley.edu/clce/clce_application_form-6

CLCE will provide funding for events that will educate and enrich the Wellesley community.  These events include, but are not necessarily limited to, lectures, panels, workshops, performances, and conferences.  CLCE events must be open to all College Community members.

The application for a CLCE-sponsored event can be found online.  Applications can be submitted electronically to Susan Lange or Beccah Sparkes.  The CLCE committee meets approximately 6 times during the academic year and will review all applications and make decisions on funding.  Please note the deadlines listed on the website; late applications will not be considered.

Departmental Funds

http://www.wellesley.edu/clce/wilson-lecture-nominations

Each department receives $1000 in the fall for programming and lectures.  Departments are responsible for their own use and distribution of these funds.

Wilson Lecture

http://www.wellesley.edu/clce/wilson-lecture-nominations

The Wilson Lecture is the premiere speaking event on campus.  Previous honorees have included Lisa Perez Jackson (Apple Inc.’s Vice President for the Environment), Caroline Myles (founder of the Save the Children Foundation), and Amy Smith (inventor and founder of the MIT d-LAB).  Faculty members are encouraged to nominate people of national and international importance to be invited by the college president to come speak.  The Wilson Lecture is always a banner event on campus.  A call for nominations will go out every spring.
