The Counseling Service offers short-term (6-8 sessions) individual and group counseling to Wellesley College students. We also offer appointments with our Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. These appointments can only be scheduled when you have been referred by one of our Counselors. These services are offered without charge.
Many students report that initially they feel hesitant about seeking our services. They worry that coming for counseling may indicate that something is "wrong" with them. However, most students who come for counseling report that it has been a very positive and productive experience and often recommend it to their friends. At times, short-term counseling is not sufficient. For those individuals who wish to continue in ongoing counseling, we can arrange for an outside referral with a counselor or clinic in the Wellesley or Boston area. We also recommend purchasing the *college insurance, University Health Plans to assist in paying for the cost of therapy by an outside provider.
Each year approximately 500 students come to the Counseling Service for issues concerning roommate difficulties, loneliness, lack of self-confidence, eating problems, abuse issues, procrastination, family problems, interpersonal conflicts, problems in intimate relationships, questions about sexuality/sexual preferences, depression, cultural/ethnic concerns, achievement conflicts and alcohol and drugs. We consider issues of confidentiality to be of utmost importance. No information will be released without the student's explicit knowledge or written consent, within the guidelines of professional ethics and legal principle. Please see Your Rights & Responsibilities in working with us.
Appointments may be made by calling (781) 283-2839, Monday thru Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Although students may request a particular counselor, we encourage students to make an appointment with the next available counselor.
If you have general questions, please feel free to call (781) 283-2839, Monday thru Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, or email email@example.com. Please remember email is not a secure form of communication and is not appropriate for urgent or emergency situations, or for scheduling appointments.
