Wintersession: God's Love We Deliver NYC

God's Love We Deliver

Wintersession Alternative Break 2014
January 12th-19th, 2014
New York, NY

God's Love We Deliver (GLWD) is the tri-state area's leading provider of nutritious, individually-tailored meals to men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other serious illnesses who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves. Founded in 1985 when one woman began delivering food on her bicycle to a man dying from AIDS, God's Love now cooks 4,000 meals each weekday, delivering them to clients living with life-altering illnesses in all five boroughs of New York City, Newark and Hudson County, New Jersey.  God's Love We Deliver is a non-sectarian organization, providing meals with the strong belief of "food as medicine." To that end, GLWD employs a team of registered dietitians who individually tailor meals to each client's specific medical requirements. God's Love provides all services by employing a small but dedicated professional staff and with the critical assistance of over 7,600 volunteers annually.

While serving with God’s Love We Deliver students will help prepare and deliver the nutritious and delicious meals to God’s Love clients.  Throughout the week the group will work food prep shifts where students will help prepare massive quantities of food by completing tasks such as chopping onions, wrapping rolls, peeling potatoes or making meatballs.  Each student will also have the chance to deliver meals either on foot to local clients or be paired with a wonderful GLWD driver to bring meals to clients in all of NYC’s boroughs and New Jersey. Both delivery opportunities are a fun way to see the city and meet GLWD clients.
