Community Service Quick-Fix Grants

Purpose:
Community Service Quick-Fix Grants provide small amounts of funding to support short-term student projects that could not be anticipated far enough in advance to be covered by SOFC funding or the Katharine Timberman Wright Awards. Small, one-time grants of up to $300 for individuals and up to $500 for groups are awarded on a continuing basis throughout first and second semester to support student community service projects.

Examples of projects covered:
  • You need public transportation to get to a site of a community service project from Wellesley College or your home.
  • You need supplies (art, craft, homework) for a project or program.
  • Your student group would like to hold a fundraiser for an after-school program and need money for publicity.
  • Your service group would like to hold a holiday party at the local homeless shelter and need money for the materials (office and art supplies, food, etc.).

Amount: Up to $300 dollars for individuals and up to $500 for a group

Eligibility: All full time students and Davis Scholars currently enrolled in classes on the Wellesley College campus are eligible. No more than one grant per year will be awarded to a student and/or student group. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Awards will be made until all funds for the year have been allocated.

Limitations and exclusions: This money cannot be used for programs that are not directly involved in community service. Money cannot be transferred to another project and unused money must be returned to the fund. No applications will be considered for reimbursement of expenses incurred prior to the time of the application. Students cannot use Quick-Fix Grants to make up for budgetary overruns in existing programs. The funds cannot be used to pay for academic conferences or programs. The funds can only be used for local transportation.

To Apply: Students are asked to complete the Community Service Quick-Fix Grant Application Form, an essay describing the project and the organization, home page of the Web site of the organization for which you will be working (if available), a verification letter from the agency or project leader on the organization's letterhead, and a detailed budget of project expenses.

Applications deadlines for the 2008-2009 academic year are at 12 p.m. on:
Wednesday, September 10, 2008
Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Decisions on the applications will be sent out two weeks after the deadline date by email.

Questions about the application process should be e-mailed to Melissa Hawkins, Director of Service and Stipend Programs.

Note: Applications are considered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Not all applications will be funded. Students who fail to file the required one to two page typed report at the end of their trip will not be reimbursed for their expenses.
