Description:

The student will assist in the maintenance of the museum website and in the preparation of special websites and other technology projects. Duties: update information on the Davis website; prepare new pages as needed; update the Davis Facebook page and other social media accounts; serve as photographer for special events; research technology projects from other museums; process new photography with Photoshop for inclusion in the collections management database; and provide technical assistance for the museum staff. The student may also help coordinate other computer-based technology projects at the museum and, depending on interests and skills, act as a producer for such projects.

Required skills/experience:

• The position requires good working knowledge of the Microsoft Windows XP and Mac operating systems as well as thorough familiarity with Drupal, Photoshop, scanners, and digital cameras.
• Concrete understanding of iPhone application front-end design, with some knowledge of programming vocabulary highly desirable.
• Practical experience or training in website design, website maintenance, digital photography, image processing, or multi-media programming is a plus.
• The ideal candidate would be a self-motivated student, and a good communicator, with the ability to trouble-shoot independently and to acquire new skills on the job.

Duties, Responsibilities:

Duties include staffing the print study during open hours, retrieving works from and returning works to their proper storage places, and monitoring the use of works by students, scholars, the public, and classes accompanied by a faculty member. Assistants will be trained in rules for the proper care and handling of works of art. They will also be called upon to help with the reorganization of the works on paper collection. Additionally, general office support will also be a responsibility of these students.

• Assistants will also be responsible for updating records on cards, in files and on the museum’s computerized database. This must be done with care and accuracy.
• Knowledge of Art History and the bibliography and reference materials of the field is preferred.

Description: Assists Museum Registrar in carrying out tasks related to the organization, documentation and care of the Museum’s permanent collection.


Duties, Responsibilities:

Reports to the Collections Manager and Head Registrar. Responsible for aiding the Registrar in carrying out tasks related to the organization, documentation and care of the Museum’s permanent collection. Tasks include up-dating the Museum’s computerized database, transcribing archival museum records to new pages and cards, and documenting object locations within the facility. Assistants will also participate in the accessioning process of works into the collection. Assistants will occasionally be called upon to handle works of art. General office support is also the responsibility of this assistant.

Security Guard

Description: Security Guards are an active, visual presence in the Davis Museum. Guards interact with visitors on various levels; including life safety, visitor assistance, parcel control, monitoring and controlling access to the museum and the collection. As visitors may only come in personal contact with Security Dept. staff, it is vital that the Guards are alert, friendly, and helpful.There are four security posts which all guards will be required to work: Gallery Patrols, Information Desk, Jewett Bridge Desk, and Standby Duty.

There are three Security Guard classifications: Regular Guard, Lead Guard, and Head Trainer Lead Guard.

Interested students can pick-up a job application at the Davis Museum lobby front desk. Interviews will be conducted during the first week of September.
