Each department has distinct study abroad programs. General requirements for using study abroad credit for one's major are listed below. Navigating to each language's specific study abroad page will offer the specific programs that students may consider.
Chinese Study Abroad
Students considering study abroad should consult with their academic advisor to discuss how this fits into their overall academic plan. Students should also consult the Study Abroad Office to determine administrative requirements and procedures for receiving credit, etc. Students should note that in order to receive credit toward the Chinese or East Asian Studies major, a student must have department approval prior to studying abroad and will need to demonstrate language proficiency by taking a placement test given by the Chinese Program upon returning to Wellesley. Study abroad credit for Chinese requires prior approval.
Japanese Study Abroad
A maximum of four courses taken abroad may be counted toward the Japanese language and literature major. Students should note that more credit may be counted toward the Wellesley degree. In order to obtain credit for study abroad, students must obtain prior consent from the International Study Office and the EALL Department Chair and must pass a placement test administered by the EALL Department upon return to Wellesley. In addition, it is essential that proof of course content and performance in the form of syllabi, written work, examinations, and grades be presented to the EALL Department Chair.
