Wilson Lecture 2013: Carolyn Miles
Our Best Bet: How Investing in Children Can Change the World
Carolyn Miles, president & CEO of Save the Children presents Our Best Bet: How Investing in Children Can Change the World
We must invest in children's health and education early on—not just for their own sake, but for the benefit of families, communities and the world at large. Early investment in children is the best investment a society can make, showing remarkable returns in the promise for a better future.
Save the Children is an independent organization that serves children in need in the United States and around the world. In 2011, Ms. Miles was named President and CEO of the global charity, and she is the first woman to hold this post. As the organization’s leader, she has focused on hunger, learning outcomes, and preventing child mortality as her signature issues. Save the Children currently serves over 125 million children in the U.S. and 120 other countries. Before joining Save the Children in 1998, Ms. Miles worked in the private sector in the U.S. and in Hong Kong, and as an entrepreneur in Asia.
This year’s Wilson Lecture, and Ms. Miles’ visit to campus, helps celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Wellesley College Child Study Center. During the year, you will hear about additional opportunities to celebrate this milestone anniversary.
