Jazz/World Music Faculty Concert

Wellesley’s vibrant Jazz-World Music faculty presents “GROOVE TRANSLATION: Rhythms of Jazz-World Music”.  From the exuberance of New Orleans’ second-line, to the propulsion of swing, to Afro-Cuban Clave and Haitian Ibo, rhythm or “groove” is the heartbeat of all improvisational music. The evening’s performance will highlight the world of rhythmic diversity, from traditional beats to metric innovations. Dave Brubeck, who made rhythmic exploration a life-long pursuit said: “Rhythm is the Universal Human language.” A reception will follow the performance.

Performers include: Kris Adams, voice; David Harris, trombone; Mark Henry, bass;  Greg Hopkins, trumpet; Doug Johnson, piano; Steven Kirby, guitar; Steve Langone, drums; Lance Martin, flute; Cercie Miller, saxophones; Kera Washington, percussion and voice; and Paula Zeitlin, violin.
