Ang Lee and James Schamus

A Conversation Between Film Greats

Saturday, October 26, 2013 - 10:30am
Location: Alumnae Hall Auditorium (201)

The internationally renowned film director Ang Lee is coming to Wellesley College on October 26, 2013. Lee, who has won two Academy Awards for Best Director (2005, Brokeback Mountain; 2012, Life of Pi) and one for Best Foreign Language Film (2000, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) in addition to numerous prestigious prizes from European and Asian film festivals, will have a conversation with James Schamus.

Schamus is the screenwriter of most of Lee's films. He is the CEO of Focus Features, a major independent film company. He is also a well-known film scholar, having taught at Columbia University for more than twenty years.

The conversation will be moderated by Mingwei Song, a Wellesley assistant professor who has taught Lee’s films in various classes. Lee and Schamus will answer questions from the audience. The event is free and open to the public.

The Newhouse Center for the Humanities, the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures, and the Cinema and Media Studies Program are co-organizing a series of events surrounding Lee’s visit on campus, including special screenings of Lee’s major films and academic talks on related topics.
