For El Dia de los Muertos an altar is builtwith a beautiful compilation of flowers, candles, photographs and belongings of the decedent, and food offerings. Honoring the dead emphasizes the belief that we are reunited with those who have passed for a brief period of time. Prior to the celebration, students come together and help create and decorate the altar. We ask the students and faculty to bring photos of deceased loved ones to add to the altar as an impetus for discussing and thinking about death. A short presentation by a speaker is followed by an authentic Mexican meal accompanied by Mariachi music and traditional Mexican folkloric dance.
