Deborah Lenares
Manager of Library Acquisitions & Resource Sharing
I have been working in libraries since 1996, and have been a library manager since 2002.
My expertise includes managing multi-million dollar budgets, supervising and supporting staff as they adapt to changing work processes, and building relationships with faculty to develop patron-focused library services.
I believe that librarians have the ability and responsibility to influence the development of publishing business models. I have been asked by publishers and library systems vendors to consult on trends in library collections. I was invited to speak with the Professional and Scholarly Publishing Division of the Association of American Publishers, and to present at the annual conference of the International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers on the topic of patron-driven ebook purchasing and its potential impact on scholarly monographs publishing.
My current area of research is in the use of and attitudes toward scholarly ebooks. This research complements my Masters’ thesis research which examined faculty use and attitudes toward electronic journals in 1998, just as the format was being adopted. The current research documents a correlation between device use and a higher level of satisfaction with ebooks. I have invited other institutions to partner on the research to expand the data-set in order to validate the current results and examine which other factors impact satisfaction levels.
