This document will help you set up your computer to use Banner ERP and Discoverer Plus. Discoverer Viewer requires no further setup on your computer.

Windows XP Setup

Prerequisites:

Issues you may encounter:

Issue: Banner ERP displays a warning "Java has discovered application components that could indicate a security concern" and asks if you want to "Block potentially unsafe components from being run?"
Solution : Click No. This error occurs due to new features in the latest versions of Java regarding unsigned components. This error will be resolved in an upcoming Banner upgrade. If you would like to stop seeing this error, click here for instructions to change the Mixed code security verification .

Setup Instructions:

Install and configure the latest version of Java 6.

Note : you may already have the latest version Java 6 already installed.

If you wish to check on your Windows Computer, click on the Windows Start button, and select Control Panel. Select "Switch to Classic View" for XP computers and double-click on the Java icon. In the Java control panel's General tab, click on the About button to find out your current version of Java.

  2. Click on Start button in the lower left of your screen and select Control Panel .
  3. Switch the Control Panel to Switch to Classic Viewif you are not already in this view.
  4. Open the Java Control Panel.
  5. Click on the Advanced tab.
    Click on the Advanced tab of the Java Control Panel.
  6. Expand the Security section.
  7. Expand the General subsection under Security and check Use SSL 2.0 compatible ClientHello format.
    Locate and check Use SSL 2.0 compatible ClientHello format.
  8. Expand the Mixed Code subsection under Security and select Enable - hide warning and run with protections.
    Locate and select Enable - hide warning and run with protections.
  9. Close the Java Control Panel.

Windows 7 Setup

  9. Close the Java Control Panel.

Mac Setup

Step 1 : Install the latest version of Java 6.
Note : you may already have the latest version Java 6 already installed.

Step 2 : Change how Applets run.

  • Quit out of all open browsers.
  • Click on the Go menu from your Desktop and select Utilities .
    Select Utilities from the Go menu.
  • Open Java Preferences .
    Open Java Preferences.
  • In the General area, select In their own process in the Run applets area. Select In their own process in the Run applets area.
  • Leave the Java Preferences window open.

Step 3 : Turn on "SSL 2.0 compatible ClientHello format."

  • In the Advanced area of Java Preferences, scroll down to the Security section.
  • Locate and check Use SSL 2.0 compatible ClientHello format .
    Locate and check Use SSL 2.0 compatible ClientHello format.
  • Close the Java Preferences window.
