Banner ERP Browser Support
Attention Banner ERP and Discoverer Plus users: do not upgrade to Java 7! Java 7 is not compatible with these systems yet. Click here for instructions to re-install Java 6.
Supported Browsers
- Windows XP: Internet Explorer 7+; Firefox 11+; Chrome 18+
- Windows 7: Internet Explorer 8+; Firefox 11+; Chrome 18+
- Mac OS 10.6+: Safari 4+; Firefox 11+; Chrome 18+
- Mac OS 10.5: There are known issues with 10.5. Please email MyWellesley Support for assistance.
Recommendation:
- Use Firefox 19.0 (February 2013) for your web browser.
- Visit JavaTester.org to see what version of Java is installed. Click OK to any security warnings to run the Java applet. It should say you have Java Version: 1.6.0_45 which is the latest version for Banner ERP.

Known Browser Issues
- Firefox Error: Firefox displays a warning when you launch Banner ERP, saying "This plugin has security vulnerabilities. Click here..."
- Firefox Error: Firefox asks you to install a plug-in to use Banner ERP, but it directs you to install an "unknown plugin".
- Windows Error: You upgraded to Java 7.
- Windows Error: Banner ERP displays a warning "Java has discovered application components that could indicate a security concern" ... [Windows XP / Windows 7]
- Windows Error: Your browser asks for you to install a plug-in to use Banner ERP.
- Windows 7 Error : Your browser intermittently hangs when you launch Banner ERP (ie. you see a white window where Banner ERP should be loading.)
- Mac OS Error : Safari can't find the Java plugin or won't load Java applications.
Install the latest version of Java 6 for Windows
- For Windows XP, visit Java's download website and download and install the 32-bit offline installer.
- For Windows 7, visit Java's download website and download and install both the 32-bit and 64-bit offline installers.
Install the latest version of Java 6 for Mac OS X
- If Java 7 (1.7) was detected, follow these directions from Apple to revert to Java 6.
- If Java 6 (1.6) was detected, but is not Update 45, or nothing was detected, visit Apple's Java 6 download website to download and install Java 6 Update 45 for Mac OS 10.6.8 or Mac OS 10.7-8.
Firefox Error "This plugin has security vulnerabilities. Click here to activate the Java (TM) Platform SE 6 U plugin."
Solution: Newer versions of Firefox have added security warnings for any version of Java that is not the very latest version of Java 7. Because Banner ERP requires Java 6, you will see the following warning. Click NO to allow Java 6 to launch Banner ERP.
Firefox Error: Firefox asks you to install a plug-in to use Banner ERP, but it directs you to install an "unknown plugin".
- In Firefox, go either to the Firefox button and click on add-ons, or to the Firefox menu bar, click on Tools, then select Add-ons.
- This will bring up a new tab in your Firefox window; from the left-hand column select "Plug-ins".

Scroll down through the list until you see "Java (TM) SE 6 U 6.0.450.6".

Click on the box to the right to enable Java.
- Close and re-open Firefox, and click yes if the browser asks to allow Java to make changes.
Windows Error: You upgraded to Java 7.
Solution: Uninstall Java 7 and re-install Java 6.
- Click on Start button in the lower left of your screen and select Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel's Category view, select Uninstall a program. In the Control Panel's Small/Large Icons view, select Programs and Features.
- Uninstall Java(TM) 7 Update X (where X is a number), if present.
- Uninstall any other versions of Java present.
- Go to the Java Downloads for All Operating Systems: Version 6 Update 45 page.
- Navigate to the Windows section.
- For Windows XP, download and install Windows Offline (32-bit).
- For Windows 7, download and install both Windows Offline (32-bit) and Windows Offline (64-bit)..
- Quit all open browsers.
- Install download[s], following the one screen instructions.
Note: You may need to change settings in the Java Control Panel if you see a warning stating "Java has discovered application components that could indicate a security concern" the next time you launch Banner ERP.
Windows XP Error : Banner ERP displays a warning "Java has discovered application components that could indicate a security concern" and asks if you want to "Block potentially unsafe components from being run?"
Solution : Click No. This error occurs due to new features in the latest versions of Java regarding unsigned components. This error will be resolved in an upcoming Banner upgrade. If you would like to stop seeing this error, change the Mixed code security verification .
- Quit out of all open browsers.
- Click on Start button in the lower left of your screen and select Control Panel .
- Switch the Control Panel to Classic View if you are not already in this view.
- Open the Java Control Panel.

- Click on the Advanced tab.

- Expand the Security section.
- Locate and select Enable - hide warning and run with protections under the Mixed Code section. Click OK .

- Try launching Banner ERP again.
- If the problem persists, email MyWellesley Support .

Windows Error: Your browser asks for you to install a plug-in to use Banner ERP.
Solution: The version of the Java plugin you have installed is older that the version your browser is willing to use. Install the latest versions of the Java plug-in.
- Go to the Java Downloads for All Operating Systems: Version 6 Update 45 page.
- Navigate to the Windows section.
- Click to download Windows 7, XP Offline (32-bit).
- [Windows 7 only] Click to download Windows 7, XP Offline (64-bit).
- Quit all open browsers.
- Install both downloads, following the one screen instructions for each download.

Solution : Set the Java Console to Show console .
- Quit out of all open browsers.
- Click on Start button in the lower left of your screen and select Control Panel .
- Switch the Control Panel to View by: Small/Large icons if you are not already in this view.
- Open the Java Control Panel .
- Click on the Advanced tab.

- Expand the Java console section.
- Locate and select Show console . Click OK .

- Try launching Banner ERP again.
- If the problem persists, email MyWellesley Support .
Mac OS Error: Safari can't find the Java plugin or won't load Java applications.
Solution: Apple released an update that disabled the Java plugin in Safari; this was to protect people who don't use the Java plugin against the Flashback malware. You will need to re-enable the Java plugin for Safari; instructions to do this can be found on Apple's support site.
