Instructional Technology Workshops for Fall 2015

Each semester LTS offers a series of
workshops for the Wellesley College community.

Check this calendar throughout the semester as more workshops may be added to the schedule. Please note: These workshops are open to the Wellesley College community only.

Please feel free to suggest other technology workshop topics which may interest you as you are filling out a registration form. Topics do not have to be related to academic projects.

All workshops will be held in the Clapp Library computing classroom or the Knapp Center, on the first floor. If a location change is needed, it will be clearly stated in your confirmation email.

Use of the 3-D printer requires a mandatory 30 minute 3-D Printer Orientation session.

Workshops Offered:

Gmail Basics - This workshop will cover the basics of Wellesley Gmail. Students will learn how to manage their email by creating multiple inboxes and using filters.

Google Apps - This workshop will present an overview of Wellesley Google Apps for Education. Students will learn how to manage calendars, drive, groups, and sites.

Google Slides - This workshop will present an overview of Google Slides, part of Google Apps for Education. Students will learn how to create presentations using this free resource.

Excel Basics  - This workshop will cover the MS Excel user interface and basic spreadsheet functions. Students will learn the program’s user interface and will learn all the basic editing functions .

Photoshop Basics  - This workshop will cover the basic tools and interface of Adobe Photoshop CS6. Students will learn the basics of image editing and creating spam for your events.

Powerpoint Basics - This workshop will cover the basics of Microsoft Powerpoint. Students will learn the basics of creating Powerpoint slides, using animated text, and embedding multimedia.

Prezi - This workshop will cover the basics of Prezi. Students will learn the basics of Prezi’s 3-dimensional canvas, and how to organize, present, and share your ideas.

InDesign Basics  - This workshop will cover the basic tools and interface of Adobe Photoshop CS6. Students will learn the basics of image editing and creating spam for your events. Students will perform basic editing functions while becoming familiar with the InDesign user interface. Learn how to create print & digital publications such as brochures & newsletters.

Word Basics  - This workshop will cover the MS Word user interface and basic editing functions. Students will learn the program’s user interface and will learn all the basic editing functions needed to take a research paper from start to finish.

Word Intermediate  - This workshop will continue to cover the MS Word user interface and basic editing functions. Students will learn the program’s user interface and will learn all the basic editing functions needed to take a research paper from start to finish.

Blogging and Wordpress - Investigate blogging from the inside and out. Look at a wide variety of blogs. Take a tour of Wordpress, create a new site and become familiar with the dashboard.

Poster design - Learn the basics of planning, designing and creating research posters.

Premiere Pro Basics  - This workshop will cover the basics of Adobe Premiere. This workshop will demostrate the basics of video editing and prepare you to develop your own video projects. Premiere Pro is one of today’s leading video editing software programs, for producing broadcast-quality and high-definition videos. It can also handle basic titles and audio mixing, and comes pre-loaded with special effects.

Endnote - Endnote can save you time and headaches by maintaining a library of all of your sources, file your pdf's, and then doing all the hard work for you when writing your papers by formatting all of your in-text citations and a complete reference section for you.  If you're a beginner or already using EndNote and just have a few questions, stop in and our experts can help!  Can't pick between EndNote and Zotero, EndNote has a few more options, especially if you are using a lot of journal articles, but Zotero handles online sources and shares between users better.

Zotero - Zotero can save you time and headaches by maintaining a library of all of your sources, file your pdf's, and then doing all the hard work for you when writing your papers by formatting all of your in-text citations and a complete reference section for you.  If you're a beginner or already using Zotero and just have a few questions, stop in and our experts can help!  Can't pick between EndNote and Zotero, EndNote has a few more options, especially if you are using a lot of journal articles, but Zotero handles online sources and shares between users better. 
 
Intro to GIS - This workshop will cover the basics of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
 
Animated GIF Workshop - Have you always wanted to learn how to make looping animations in the popular GIF format? Then participate in Knapp Media's GIF making workshop, where you will learn how to make short animations of your favorite video using Final Cut Pro and Adobe Photoshop! No experience necessary.

Data-Moshing Workshop - “Datamoshing” is the practice of intentionally creating compression artifacts in digital video and animated GIFs, which is often referred to as “glitch art.” In this workshop, students will learn how to create a simple datamoshing video by merging two short video clips using software available on the Internet.

Tinkercad: 3-D Modeling - This workshop will introduce you to the basics of making 3D designs using Tinkercad.com. Tinkercad is a free, web-based app that is beginner friendly and a powerful tool for creating printable models.
