The following instructions are currently made available for shared computers
where there is a need to allow people without a Wellesley domain account
to print to the Multi Function Device Konica Minolta printers.

 

 

 

Note: these instructions are for shared Mac computers printing to 

Administrative staff and faculty MFDs only.  


All Computing Labs print through Papercut.

 

Mac Installation Instructions

1.  You will need a few details to complete the setup.  If these are not posted on the MFD, check with your department's MFD contact ("Key Operator"), or you can contact the Help Desk to have someone get back to you with that information.

  • Model (e.g., Konica Minolta 454)

  • Queue (e.g., mlib2g)

  • Finisher (e.g., FS-534)

  • Paper Source (e.g., PC410)

2.  If you don't already have the Konica Minolta printer driver you need, install it, otherwise skip to the next step.

If you aren't sure what version of OS X your Mac is running, go to the Apple () menu, choose About This Mac).

You must be logged into your Wellesley Google Apps account to download these installers. Download the drivers for your version of OS X below:

OS X 10.6  |  OS X 10.7  |  OS X 10.8  

  • Google Drive will open. Click the Download button and then Download Anyway when prompted.
  • The installer downloads as a "DMG" file. Open the DMG file and the and double-click on the installer inside. (Note: for OS X 10.8, you need to hold down the Control key when you double-click on the installer)
  • Click through the installer and input your password when prompted.
  • When the installation is complete, close all open windows and drag the installer to the trash.
     

3.  Install the MFD as a printer.

  • Open System Preferences (located under the Apple menu on the top left corner or on your Dock), then Print & Scan.

  • Click on the "+" sign on the left to add a new printer.

  • Go to the IP tab on the top of the new window that pops up.

    • Address: mac-print
      (note: if this does not work, please contact the Help Desk for assistance)

    • Protocol: Internet Printing Protocol - IPP

    • Queue: printers/<name of print queue> (e.g., printers/mlib2r)

    • Name: <you can change this to a name that makes sense to you>

    • Location: <this is optional and can be left blank>

  • For the "Use" or "Print Using" option, use the dropdown to select "Select Printer Software" and a new window will open allowing you to choose the model of the MFD. You can filter you search by entering "Konica" or the MFD's model in the search box.  Select the model whose driver you installed earlier and click Add.

  • Select the appropriate Finisher and Paper Source Unit that you found in the Preparation step above.

  • Click OK to complete the one-time install of the MFD printer.

 
Setting as Default Printer

You can print to the MFD any time by selecting it for any print job you wish to send to it from your Mac, or you can set it to be the default.

  1. Open "System Preferences" by clicking the the Apple button in the top left and select "System Preferences". Then open "Print and Fax/Scan".

  2. Change the Default Printer to your desired printer in the dropdown menu.

  3. The chosen printer should now have Default listed under it in the printer list.
