MICROSOFT SYSTEM CENTER 2012 ENDPOINT PROTECTION

Microsoft System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection (SCEP 2012) is anti-virus software that has been licensed for use on College-owned Windows and Mac computers.

The directions below are for College-owned computers running Mac OS X 10.6 through 10.9.

For personally-owned Macs, we recommend Sophos Antivirus for Macs, available free from here. 


Removing McAfee VirusScan 9.1 (if currently installed, proceed below if not)

  1. Make sure you are logged into your Wellesley College Google account so that you can download the installers below.
  2. Download and save the McAfee VirusScan 9.1 Uninstaller script.
  3. Double-click on the downloaded DMG file to open the McAfee 9.1 Uninstaller folder.
  4. Double-click on the McAfeeUninstaller script.
  5. The Terminal application will launch a window.  In the window that appears with a Password: prompt, enter the password you use to login to the computer and press Return.  You will not see any indication on the screen that you are typing your password.
  6. The script will now remove McAfee VirusScan, and may appear stopped at times.
  7. When the Terminal window shows McAfee Security 1.1 has been uninstalled successfully, the uninstall has completed and you may quit the Terminal application and continue to install SCEP below.

 

Install System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection (college-owned Macs ONLY)

  1. Please use Google Chrome to download the files below.
  2. Make sure you are logged into your Wellesley College Google account so that you can download the installers below.
  3. Download and save the System Center 2012 R2 installer
  4. Double-click on the SCEP2012-R2-OSX.dmg file you download to mount and start the System Center 2012 installer. (You may have to double click it again on the desktop or in your Finder to begin the install process.) 
  5. In the System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection window, double click Install
  6. Click Continue when prompted with "The packager will run a program to determine if the software can be installed."
  7. Click Continue when prompted with "Warning!" McAfee was removed in the previous section.
  8. Click Continue when prompted with "Important Information"
  9. Click Continue when prompted with the "Softwarte License Agreement" and then click "Agree".
  10. Click Continue when prompted with the "Privacy Statement".
  11. Click Continue with the "Typical" installation mode selected. Click Continue if it detects McAfee Security. 
  12. Important: Select "Enable detection of potentially unwanted applications" and click Continue
  13. Install for all users of this computer and click Continue
  14. Click Install.
  15. Close when the installation is successful.
