Installing PaperCut on Windows

 

To install PaperCut on your computer so that you can print to the Comptuing Lab printers, please follow these directions.  Once setup, you can print from applications like normal followed by a prompt to login to PaperCut.  After sending your job to PaperCut you may visit any of the Computing Labs and print your job from the Release Stations next to the printer.

PaperCut Client on Windows
  1. Download the PaperCut MF Client software from this shared Google link.   Note: You will need to be logged into your Wellesley Gmail account to download this installer.
  2. Double-click on papercut.exe and click Extract to extract the installer folder. The folder will extract to your Downloads folder.
  3. Open the PaperCut folder in your Downloads folder and double-click on client-local-install.exe to start the install.
  4. If you get a Security Warning message, click “Run” or “Yes”
  5. Click “Next” at the License Agreement and Destination Location windows and when prompted.
  6. At the “Select Components” window, ensure “Local Install (For all users)” is selected.
  7. Click Install and wait for the install to complete. This should only take a few seconds.
  8. After the install has completed, At the Finish window, select “Launch client and verify my identity (Recommended)”, and click Finish.
  9. PaperCut will now launch. Login with your Wellesley account and password.
 
Installing the Printers
  1. Click on the Windows button in the lower left hand corner of your screen or press the Windows key on your keyboard and "R" simultaneously.
  2. Type “\\papercut.wellesley.edu” without the quotes in the text box that appears. Press "Enter". If you are prompted to log in, use your domain credentials, but add "wellesley\" without the quotes before your username. For example, John Smith would be entered as wellesley\jsmith.
  3. Double click on the "Community" printer to begin the printer installation process.
  4. When it is completed, you will see a Printer Preference window.
  5. Set this printer as default by clicking the Windows button in the lower left hand corner and opening "Devices and Printers". Right click your printer and select "Set as default printer".
 
You've successfully added the PaperCut printer and can now print to PaperCut from any program on your computer.
 
Additional Configuration
 
Configure double-sided / duplex printing

 
Windows XP & Vista:
  1. Go to Start > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click on the printer you want to set to duplex and select Printing Properties .
  3. In the Properties window, go to the Advanced tab and click Printing Defaults .
  4. In the Printing Defaults window, go to the Finishing tab. In the Document Options section, check the checkbox for Print on Both Sides and click OK .
  5. In the Properties window, click OK .
  6. You may now close the Printers window.
  7. Double-sided printing will now be the default when you print to this printer. If you want to print single-sided, in the application you are using go to File > Print and click the Properties button next to the printer. Go to the Finishing tab and uncheck the box next to Print on Both Sides.
 
Windows 7 & 8:
  1. Go to Start > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click on the printer you want to set to duplex and select Printing Preferences (not Printing Properties).
  3. In the Preferences window, in the Layout section that appears, there should be a Print on Both Sides drop-down box.  Change that option to Flip on Long Edge.
  4. In the Preferences window, click OK .
  5. Double-sided printing will now be the default when you print to this printer. If you want to print single-sided, in the application you are using go to File > Print and click the Properties button next to the printer. In the Layout tab, under Print on Both Sides, set it to None, and it will print single-sided.
 
Print a test page

 
While not required, you may wish to print a test page before printing a document, to make sure the settings are correct and that you can print to PaperCut.
  1. Select community as your printer under "Devices and Printers".
  2. Print any page from any source.
  3. Click "Print" when the dialog below appears and the page will be available at any release station.
