Computing Resources for Remote Access
Successful remote connections are not guaranteed due to variability in off campus network connections and software and hardware incompatibilities. Not all College software and network resources will be available off campus due to licensing agreements and limitations of remote access. Performance (speed, responsiveness) of network resources may vary considerably when accessed over a remote connection, so certain software and network resources will be best used on campus. Please consult with LTS if you have questions about accessing a particular resource.
Recommended Network & Computer Specifications
Network connection: DSL, cable, or fiber optic (e.g. FIOS)
Operating system: Windows XP SP3, Windows 7, Mac OS X 10.5 or later
Minimum hardware specifications: Processor: 2.4 GHz or higher; Memory: 4GB RAM
Productivity software: Microsoft Office 2010/2011 which can be purchased through Wellesley's Computer Purchasing Program.
Anti-virus and anti-malware software (recommended for all VPN users; Anti-Virus software is required for PCs accessing Secure VPN)
The Computing Help Desk provides best-effort support for remotely accessing College resources, via phone or in person at the Help Desk during business hours. Best-effort support is defined as a maximum of one hour of dedicated troubleshooting of remote access, after which LTS staff will make a judgment call as to whether additional effort would be appropriate.
