matlab

Beginning in 2016, Wellesley College has a TAH site license for Mathworks MATLAB, a data analysis and visualization tool, providing both instruction and research unlimitted licensing.

MATLAB 2019b is installed in SCI classrooms and labs. Faculty who need a different version installed in a classroom or teaching lab, or need more than the old list (below) of toolboxes, please email classrooms@wellesley.edu with the detailed information and location.

You may download and install whatever version is compatible with your computer's operating system, and has what you need for functionality and/or compatibility with another computer.

Annual Re-Activation

If you installed MATLAB previously on your own computer, each summer you need to re-activate the software.

You may need to remember your login information for MATLAB's portal.

Go to the Help menu in MATLAB
Select Licensing
Select Activate Software
Follow the prompts on your screen

You may need to quit MATLAB and launch it again afterward for the license expiration warning to go away. (See MATLAB's web page about this for details.

Included with our license, as of Spring 2020, are ALL toolboxes for MATLAB, including those we had before:

  • MATLAB
  • MATLAB Compiler
  • MATLAB Compiler SDK
  • Bioinformatics Toolbox
  • Computer Vision Tool Box
  • Control System Toolbox
  • Curve Fitting Toolbox
  • Data Acquisition Toolbox

Download the installer
  1. Visit the Wellesley College MATLAB Portal and click Sign in to get started
  2. Create or Login to a MathWorks Account using your Wellesley email address
  3. You will be prompted to download the latest version of MATLAB but can select a previous version to match what is in the classrooms and labs on campus
Install and Activate

  1. Continue to follow the Guided Workflow to run the installer you downloaded, if it doesn't launch automatically. It should be located in the default download location, unless you specified another location.
  2. In the MathWorks installer, select "Log in with a MathWorks Account" and follow the online instructions.
  3. When prompted to do so, select the license you want to use.
  4. Select the products you want to download and install.
  5. When asked to provide a user name, verify that the displayed user name is correct. Continue with the process until activation is complete.

If you have concerns about how slowly MATLAB launches on your computer, Mathworks has some suggestions.
