FAQ

Wellesley College Choir FAQ

Q. What is the time commitment for Choir and Chamber Singers?

A. Choir rehearses twice a week, Mondays from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and Thursdays from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. Chamber Singers rehearses once a week, Wednesdays from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. Both groups give several concerts through the year. Please see the schedule for more specific times.

Q. Can I get academic credit for singing in Choir or Chamber Singers?

A. Yes! If you request credit during the academic year, you may receive credit for MUS 250H, Performing Ensembles for Credit. The form is on the Music website under the Forms tab and must be completed online. The following requirements must be met:

General Guidelines for 250H, Performing Ensembles for Credit:

1) One-half (.5) unit of credit is given for a full year (two consecutive semesters) of participation in Choir and/or Chamber Singers. No credit will be given unless both semesters are completed satisfactorily.

2) A maximum of 2 units of credit toward the degree can be accumulated through 250H. Of the 32 units required for graduation, no more than 4 units in performing music may be counted toward the degree; thus students taking music lessons for credit during all four years at Wellesley cannot also receive degree credit via Music 250H.

Q. What do you do besides sing?

A. The choir travels to various locations, fraternizes with other world-class music groups, holds retreats to hone our craft, and generally has a good time. All of the aforementioned things do involve singing, but that’s what choir is all about. The Choir Tour, hosting men’s Glee Clubs for collaboration and bonding activities are all part of the group’s traditions.

Q. Tell me more about the Choir Tour!

A. Every year, the Choir goes on tour to a different location, with an international trip occurring every four years. In the past we’ve gone to Seoul, South Korea; Charlotte NC/Virginia; Montreal, CA; Portugal, the Baltics, and more. The tour occurs during Spring Break or Wintersession and is one of the best ways to get to know the Choir. It’s definitely a highlight of everyone’s year.
