Wellesley Celebrates Flower Sunday

September 10, 2012

Tradition Dates to College's Founding

Yesterday, the first Sunday after the academic year began, was Flower Sunday at Wellesley College.  Flower Sunday is the oldest tradition at Wellesley, dating back to 1875.

Each entering first-year student is paired with an upperclasswoman “big sister,” who helps her acclimate and navigate the ins and outs of the College. Big sisters bring flowers to their little siblings and accompany them to the flower-filled Houghton Chapel and Multifaith Center for a wonderful multifaith program that welcomes all into the Wellesley community.
