Definitions

The staffing headcounts and FTEs reflect the people employed and occupying positions on 10/2/2013. Positions that were unfilled on that date are not included in the counts.

Division
Area of the College headed by a senior staff member responsible for a major administrative function or functions
Employee Status  

Non-exempt Employee

Those employees of the College covered by the provisions of the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act for minimum wage and entitled to overtime pay for hours worked beyond 40 hours in the work week

Exempt Employees

Those employees of the College who are legally exempt from the overtime provisions of the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act

Union Employees

Those employees of the College who are represented and bound by the provisions of the collective bargaining agreements of the Independent Maintenance and Service Employees' Union of America or the Wellesley College Campus Police Association, Union of Campus Police
Full Time Equivalent (FTE)  

FTE

A FTE equal to one is an employee who works at least 35 hours a week for 12 months and is funded by the Wellesley College operating budget

Grant-funded FTE

A grant-funded FTE equal to one is an employee who works at least 35 hours a week for 12 months and is funded by sources outside of the Wellesley College operating budget
Grant-supported Staff
Staff who get paid with money obtained from research grants (“soft money”), not with College funds. Most work in the Wellesley Centers for Women. The number employed per year is not controlled by the College and may fluctuate significantly from year to year, affecting the count in the number of employees reporting to the Dean of the College.
IPEDS Race/Ethnicity
In 2010 the U.S. government mandated a new set of reporting categories for race and ethnicity. Persons who are not U.S citizens or permanent residents are reported as International. Citizens or permanent residents who indicate that they are Hispanic are reported as Hispanic. Non-Hispanic citizens or permanent residents are counted as members of the race they indicate if they indicate a single race, but are reported as having Two or More Races if they indicated more than one race. People who have not indicated any race or ethnicity are reported as Unknown.
