Ewha Womans University

Founded in 1886, Ewha Womans University started out as a missionary boarding school, and is now one of the most respected universities in Korea. 

Ewha Womans University is home to over 17,000 students, houses 14 colleges offering 62 major areas of study, nine graduate schools, and 30 research institutes. In 1995, Ewha was ranked as the top university in the nation by the Korean Council for University Education.  The international program offered by Ewha provides the opportunity for students to study a wide range of subjects including the Korean language.  No prior knowledge of Korean is required. Students at Ewha are predominantly female, but male students are accepted and many foreign exchange students are men. Ewha is located in the Shinchon district of Seoul, a 15-minute subway ride from downtown.  Seoul. the capital of South Korea, has a population of over 10 million and offers museums, shrines, shopping districts, and gardens.  As the host of the 1988 Olympics and the 2002 World Cup, Seoul also has world-class sports facilities.
