Japan Women's University

Japan Women's University, with its four faculties, fifteen departments and five graduate schools, continues its work of education and research at its two campuses: at Mejiro, an oasis of green in the heart of the city and at Nishi-Ikuta, with its flowers and trees that change with the seasons.  Since its foundation in 1901, the university has sought to produce young women who can contribute to society through their education as human beings, women and as citizens, and through the three founding principles of the school's spiritual and educational ethos of true conviction, cooperation and service and creativity.  By raising women's sensibilities and providing numerous opportunities for leadership, as well as career-oriented courses, we aim to support our students to become confident and independent members of society.  The aim of our university remains, as ever, to develop a comprehensive education founded on the most rigorous academic and specialist skills that will prepare young women for the society of the 21st century.

JWU promotes international exchanges as a key priority. Students from abroad may follow whole undergraduate or postgraduate courses as Regular Students, or may study for one year as part of an exchange program. Students are offered classes in the Japanese language and culture in addition to the regular courses in the student's major area of study. They are also assigned student tutors for advice on life and study in Japan. The International Office serves to assist students from abroad, and also to facilitate and encourage our own students to go and study abroad.
