Philosophy Club is open to everyone and has members of all different backgrounds, majors and interests. The Club serves as an opprotunity for students to learn more about and to practice philosophy among their peers outside of the classroom. With the goal of encouraging philosophical conversations and thought, the Club periodically holds evening student-led discussions of topics ranging from theories of philosophy of art to animal rights. The Club fosters a collegial atmosphere for students to discuss current college events in a philosophical way. The Club hosts informal lunches with professors in order to chat about a philosophical topic of their personal interest, or even to get to know them better. Other events have included watching movies that explore interesting philosophical topics, and suppers with alums who were philosophy majors at which they explained the unique flexibility of the philosophy major in the professional world. The Philosophy Club also often co-hosts events with the faculty of the Department - a favorite example is the Philosophy Pub Night at Punch's Alley at which faculty and students merrily chat over drinks about philosophy, broadly defined. Recently, the Club has been adding even more events to the agenda in order to build a strong and sustainable club. Suggestions are always welcome as the Club continues to evolve.
