Simple Harmonic Oscillation

  • At turning points: Potential energy equals mechanical energy; kinetic energy is zero.
  • At equilibrium point (x = 0): kinetic energy equals mechanical energy; potential energy is zero.
  • Conservation of energy: The mechanical energy – the sum of potential energy (the blue vertical line) and kinetic energy (the red vertical line) – is constant throughout the oscillation.
