Taking It Home

Taking It Home!
Reflection by Vincent Harding panel response and roundtable discussions
Plenary Session III

"Before we celebrate diversity we need to be sure and encounter it...to engage it, to look it right in the eye. I'm going back and invite you to go back seeing this diversity...not being afraid to see it and recognize that seeing it is going to be difficult for us sometimes. I'm going back trying to seek out all my sisters and brothers because they will take me home...they will take me to the deepest levels of God. Because God is diversity, is truth, is love, is my sister, is my brother. I am going back pondering these things and I am so glad that I could be here to be inspired again to take them very, very seriously."

"Now the one other major issue of going home that I want to share has to do with that breathtaking (multi-faith) service yesterday...I am going to carry that vision of the students home with me. I have a feeling, and I am taking this with me, that at the chapel yesterday...we were visiting the future and the future was visiting us. And as I go home, I am promising myself that I want to be faithful to that vision all the rest of my life."

"The vision of moving American higher education towards meaning and purpose at the deepest human level of heart and spirit speaks to me in a very profound way. What I know and have seen, in this tent here at Wellesley, is that I am in very good company and am not alone!"
