What To Do in Boston

Boston and Cambridge are approximately 12 miles from Wellesley College.

It's close enough a distance where it's a short bus ride away, but it's also far enough that you can get isolated if you need to do so.

How do people get from Wellesley to Boston? The Wellesley/MIT Exchange Shuttle runs on the hour between Wellesley and Cambridge. It is a free service that runs Monday through Friday during the academic year. The stops go through the M.I.T. campus, making a convenient stop in Kendall Square. From Friday evening through Sunday evening, the shuttle becomes the Senate Bus, which is a service that requires tickets or tokens in order to board. The stops change, making their way through Harvard Square, Kendall Square, and the Back Bay. Additionally, the Commuter Rail makes a stop in Wellesley Square, which is a short walk from the campus. Going inbound, there are stops in the Back Bay and at South Station. Once in Cambridge or Boston, students often use the MBTA system (the T) to get around.

What's in Boston? What's in Cambridge? Boston is often characterized by its rich history, championship sports teams, and collegiate atmosphere. Boston is the capitol of Massachusetts, so you'll find the capitol building right in the heart of the city, in Beacon Hill. In the Fenway neighborhood are Fenway Park and the Boston Red Sox. There are tons of other colleges packed into all of Boston's many neighborhoods, in addition to great shopping, art, and dining. Cambridge is like Boston's bohemian sister. Its many "squares," including Harvard, Central, and Inman Squares, are lively and colorful places with lots of restaurants, movie theaters, and funky boutiques.

If you're thinking of a weekend trip to somewhere close, but outside of Boston, here is a list of some popular destinations:

- Amherst, Massachusetts
- Cape Cod and the Islands (Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket), Massachusetts
- The North Shore or The South Shore, Massachusetts
- Northampton, Massachusetts
- Salem, Massachusetts
- New York City!
- Providence, Rhode Island
- Newport, Rhode Island
