My research interests include Japanese theater, in particular the noh and kyogen, and Japanese classical literature and language.
I teach classical Japanese language; Japanese theater in performance; the history of Japanese theater; pre-modern Japanese prose and poetry in translation; and Japanese animation.
I am also involved in the development of classical language courses for undergraduates; bringing professional Japanese theatrical performances to Wellesley campus and providing student workshops in Japanese performance; and creating opportunities for internships for students in Japan.
