Mark Sanagan
Mark Sanagan is a historian of the modern Middle East and the Special Projects Editor at the Dictionary of Canadian Biography.

Mark Sanagan completed his PhD at McGill University in 2016, and his MA at McGill’s Institute of Islamic Studies in 2006. His dissertation, “Lightening through the clouds: Islam, community, and anti-colonial rebellion in the life and death of ‘Izz al-Din al-Qaaam, 1883–1935,” tells the little-known backstory of a legendary anti-colonial rebel. He has travelled extensively and conducted research throughout the Middle East and Europe. In addition to this research, he has taught undergraduate courses on the Arab-Israeli Conflict and the wider Middle East at McGill and McMaster University, and has delivered a number of talks throughout North American on issues ranging from historical methods, Islamism, and the Oslo Accords.
