In the summer of 2014, she worked as a student researcher in the Botanic Gardens and Greenhouses, where she designed a project examining sustainability and public health issues associated with traditional methods of farming and gardening. On campus, Melanie is a member of the Equestrian Team and is heavily involved in science outreach programs for underrepresented youth as a mentor of Science Club for Girls. She is fluent in Mandarin. After graduation, Melanie aims to pursue work with a public health organization involving medical accessibility and health policy.
