She is interested in the intersections between scientific research and maintaining justice in the context of global environmental change and an impending climate refugee crisis. Through a program with Wellesley College and Irkutsk State University (Irkutsk, Siberia, Russia), Mia spent last summer doing limnological research on Lake Baikal and learning about local/indigenous culture. She has a working knowledge of Russian language. On campus, Mia lives in Wellesley’s Sustainability Cooperative, works at El Table, and plays in a jazz ensemble. After graduation, she wants to devote her life to bridging the gap between scientific research and governance while uplifting the knowledge systems of marginalized communities.
