Sofia Rubio
Sofia is a junior majoring in Cognitive Science with a concentration in linguistics.

She is interested in the protection and revitalization of vulnerable languages and their speakers, as well as the work of speech and language pathologists with linguistically diverse patients. In the summer of 2021, Sofia worked as an intern for the Jewish Language Project at Hebrew Union College, where she documented, researched, and created educational materials regarding Jewish languages. Sofia spent her sophomore year working at the MIT Language Acquisition Lab where she helped design and run studies to research how the cognitive linguistic abilities and processes of children differ from those of adults. On campus, Sofia plays on the squash team and has served as a Resident Assistant, through which she enjoys creating a safe space for the social, emotional, and academic development of her residents. She is a native speaker of English and Spanish and is proficient in French. After graduation, Sofia would like to work in speech pathology, serving multilingual individuals, or collaborate with global policy makers, devising policies that empower and protect endangered languages around the world and those who speak them.
