My special interests are yoga practice as a healing modality for anxiety and depression, for spinal health, and working with young adults to cultivate a positive self-image.
I am an inspired and passionate yoga teacher, combining physical alignment, meditative movement, and the cultivation of a joyful heart to create an innovative and transformative class experience.I have taught yoga since 1990 and joined the Wellesley College faculty in 2004. I've presented workshops throughout New England and nationally, notably at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Wellness, Yoga Journal Conferences, and Yoga Alliance Leadership Conferences. In addition to teaching at Wellesley, I teach weekly classes in the Boston area. I have studied yoga and meditation since 1984 with renowned teachers, including B.K.S. Iyengar and Geeta Iyengar; Patricia Walden, senior Iyengar teacher and my primary teacher since 1988; and Zen Buddhist master/meditation teacher Thich Nhat Hanh.
I am a member of the Yoga Alliance and the International Association of Yoga Therapists.
I love spending time with my family, reading poetry, being with animals, and watching movies. On a warm, sunny day you can find me on the beach.
I am a co-author of "Effects of Yoga Versus Walking on Mood, Anxiety, and Brain GABA Levels: A Randomized Controlled MRS Study," published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, November 2010, which investigated yoga as a healing modality for depression and anxiety; and a co-author of Yoga for a Healthy Lower Back, Shambhala Publications, June 2013. My special interests are yoga practice as a healing modality for anxiety and depression, for spinal health, and working with young adults to cultivate a positive self-image.
