What are the rules?

You can find the rules of badminton here. Some key points about the rules of badminton are:

  • Serves must be hit underhand
  • Serve from the right after scoring a point that brings your score to an even number
  • Serve from the left after scoring a point that brings your score to an odd number
  • Players may hit the birdie from out of bounds
  • If a player touches the net with any part of their body or racquet then their opponent earns a point
  • Sets are played to 21
  • If the score is tied at 20 - 20, a player must score two points consecutively to win
  • If the score is still tied at 29 - 29, the next point determines the winner
  • The winner of 2/3 sets wins the game
How should we organize our matches?

This year all matches will be organized by the Recreation Coordinator. If a team cannot make thier match or need to reschedule it is up to that team to find a time when both teams are available and email mt117@wellesley.edu to notify of any changes.

How do the brackets work?
  • Bracket size will depend on the number of registrants
  • Participants will be randomly seeded into the bracket
  • Each tier of the bracket will have a “complete by” date attached
  • You must play your match and report results to mt117@wellesley.edu by midnight on that date
  • If you have not completed your match by midnight on that day and have not scheduled a makeup match, we will flip a coin to determine the winner
  • The Bracket will be posted HERE.
