Katy Ryan is the Associate Director of Exploration & Advising and the Advisor Careers in Nonprofits. Katy is a proud Seven Sisters alumna, receiving her B.A. from Smith College in Women & Gender Studies. She went on to earn a Masters of Urban Planning from the University of Michigan where she worked on community-based planning. Katy continued her studies through a Geography PhD program at Rutgers University where she researched creative climate change adaptation, focusing on the power of art, dance, and emotion to inspire social transformation. After two years of doctoral study, Katy left academia to begin a career in higher education administration. Even within her circuitous and surprising career journey, an interdisciplinary approach to community-based planning and learning has always been at the heart of what she loves to do. Most recently, she completed a Graduate Certificate in Social Impact Design from the University of Pennsylvania to expand her social change toolbox and gain more skills as an advisor, leader, and citizen. She is thrilled to share her experience as she leads the Exploration & Advising team and champions Wellesley students and alums exploring careers in Education, Nonprofit, and Social Impact.
