Employer Handshake Resources

Handshake Employer Approval Guidelines

We look forward to reviewing your request for approval but before inviting us to be a partner school in Handshake, be sure to:

  • Fill out your employer profile completely and include your website address. We understand that some of our employers may be start-ups and we recommend that you still include a company contact on your website that we may get in touch with should we have further questions.
  • Include as much information as you can on types of job opportunities, company culture, and any other information that you feel may be helpful for our students to read before they apply. We feel very strongly about not only providing our students access to jobs but career educational opportunities that will facilitate her learning, development, reflection and application.
  • Match your company information on your website with what you filled out on Handshake. Please make sure that you include valid contact information and that your address, phone number, etc. it is up to date.
  • Use email addresses with a domain that matches the domain of your website - including personal addresses such as Gmail on your Handshake organizational profile is discouraged.
  • Review your Handshake profile as well as your website for tone of language, spelling and grammatical errors. We emphasize a professional approach with all of our students when working with employers and appreciate employer relationships that value the importance of this principle.

Note: Organizations that have either been flagged on Handshake or companies that we come across that have complaints on websites such as BBB, Glassdoor, etc. will not be approved. Companies that ask our students to pay any amount for employment will also be denied.

Third Party Recruiters

If you are recruiting for another company, this will need to be apparent for postings within Handshake including, but not limited to, the name of the company that the position is being recruited for. Students will also not be required to pay a third party recruiting fee for any recruiting services rendered. Wellesley College reserves the right to decline approval on job postings by third party recruiters that include employers that we already have an established relationship with.

Commission Only

When submitting commission only jobs and internships within Handshake, please indicate salary details accordingly.

Failure to follow these guidelines may not only affect your potential relationship with Wellesley College but other schools in the Handshake system. If any school in Handshake rejects your request to connect, it may affect something called an “employer trust score” that can influence the decisions of others as to whether or not to approve your company or organization.

Private Families or Individuals

Unfortunately, at this time, we cannot work with employer requests from private individuals or families as we require employers to have a business or non-profit license before they can submit an employer or job approval request.

Disclaimers

Career Education at Wellesley reserves the right to exclude any employer from recruiting activities and to edit, delete, or refuse any employer profile or job posting at any time. Please note that we receive hundreds of requests for employer account approvals each week. Although we would like to respond back to each account that is declined, given the volume of requests we receive, we are unable to. If your account is declined and you have questions on next steps, please reach out to the Employer Engagement team at recruiting@wellesley.edu for additional information.

The posting of employer, job, and internship information in our Handshake database should not be considered an endorsement by Career Education or Wellesley College of the organizations posting the positions or the positions posted.
