The mission of the Goldwater Scholarship is to help develop the nation’s next generation of researchers in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering, by awarding scholarships to college sophomores and juniors who intend to pursue research careers in these fields.

Ford Foundation Fellowships: Predoctoral - direct application deadline

Eligible: graduating seniors and alumnae who are U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents, as well as individuals granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program, political asylees, and refugees. Individuals must also be enrolled in or plan to enroll in an eligible research-based (dissertation-required) program leading to a Ph.D. or Sci.D.

National Institutes of Standards & Technology Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (NIST SURF) - direct application deadline

Eligible: undergraduates in STEM fields who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology - Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (NIST SURF) fully funds summer research opportunities at NIST laboratories in Boulder, CO, or Gaithersburg, MD. The program will be conducted using a hybrid format for Summer 2023, including both in-person and virtual components. Students with biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, materials science, mathematics, nanoscale science, neutron research and/or physics majors are always encouraged to apply; there may be research opportunities for students with other majors.
