CLCE General Event Funding
CLCE will provide funding for events that will educate and enrich the Wellesley community. These events include, but are not necessarily limited to; lectures, panels, workshops, performances, and conferences. CLCE events must be open to all College Community members.
The application for a CLCE-sponsored event can be found online. Applications should be submitted electronically to CLCE@wellesley.edu. The CLCE committee meets approximately six times during the academic year and will review all applications and make decisions on funding. Please note the deadlines listed below; late applications will not be considered.

Events sponsored by the CLCE serve to educate and enrich the Wellesley College Community. Events that CLCE sponsors must be open to all College Community members. The types of events include lectures, panels, performances, workshops, cultural shows, and conferences designed and intended for the College Community and beyond.

All applications must be submitted electronically to CLCE@wellesley.edu by 11:59pm of the respective due date.
Hard copy proposals will not be accepted.
It is now mandatory to consult with a Member of the CLCE Committee Member prior to submitting. Students must consult with the student services representative at least one week prior to the application deadline if the amount your are seeking from the CLCE is over $1,000.
All materials should be included in the application. Please do not send budgets or lecturer biographies under separate cover.
Please do not send multiple pages of menus from caterers and restaurants.
Late proposals will NOT be accepted. Please plan accordingly.
Proposals for events that have already occurred will not be funded. Also, once the CLCE has approved an application, the Committee will not consider any requests for additional funds for the same event.
Applicants will be notified a few days after the CLCE Committee meeting regarding their proposal status.
Proposals and financial information submitted to the CLCE are downloaded and read by members of CLCE only.
You may only apply once for each event so please be sure your expenses are accurate and if applicable that SOFC funds are guaranteed.
An event wrap up form at the conclusion of your event must be submitted to CLCE@wellesley.edu.
Student organizations must meet with a member of the Student Involvement staff or with one of the student representatives to the CLCE prior to submitting their proposal. Additionally, student applicants who apply to fund a "Major Event" with anticipated honoraria of $5,000 or more must consult with the student services representative prior to negotiating a contract with the performer and prior to submitting their funding proposal.
Faculty and staff must meet with a Member of the CLCE Committee prior to submitting an application for a "Major Event" or General Application. Please note: Asking to meet with a member of the committee the day the application is due is not acceptable.
Scheduling a Location
Event locations must be scheduled on-line at 25Live. Additional assistance is available through the Special Events Office (for faculty and staff events) or the Office of Student Involvement (for student events).
Event Date & Time
Except in unusual circumstances, events must be scheduled outside of regular class hours and should take place on the Wellesley College Campus. Events should be scheduled to avoid conflict with already scheduled events and religious holidays. The end of semesters, particularly the spring semester, tend to become heavily scheduled. We urge those proposing events to seek dates in the earlier part of the semester whenever possible.
Event Name & Abstract
Each event must have a title that clearly identifies the event purpose. The abstract of the event should describe the event goals, the focus of the event, featured speaker/performer, and ways in which the event will benefit the Wellesley College community. Abstracts are made public for the Wellesley College community to read.
The General Funding Application Form includes a budget worksheet. The proposed budget should be as specific as possible and should follow the given template. A complete budget worksheet anticipating all event costs must accompany all applications.
When preparing your budget, consider the following list (in addition to other costs):
Honorarium ($1,000 max. for Visiting Non-Wellesley Faculty)
Transportation (to and from the College), airfare and/or taxi
Lodging and meals for lecturer/performer
Dinner off campus and/or reception for guests of event within reason and students must be included.
Custodial services, sound systems, and media service
Other costs specific to the event type - Budget Clarity
Food budget within reason.
The CLCE does not fund:
Costs associated with a non-philanthropic fundraiser
Events for members only and/or not open to the entire College Community
Honorariums to current Wellesley Faculty
Items described as “Miscellaneous”
No admission fee or cover fee may be charged to Wellesley College students, faculty or staff for events funded through the CLCE. Admission fee or cover fee may be charged to off-campus persons only to offset costs of the event. Any profit made or unused funds must be returned to the CLCE.
All events must apply for co-sponsors from other departments, committees or student groups. The CLCE looks for proposals with significant financial support and/or significant programming assistance from other constituencies. Students are encouraged to seek funds from other student groups and to approach academic departments only in the case of events connected with the work of that department. SOFC funding must be secured prior to applying to the CLCE. CLCE is the funder of last resort .

CLCE Decision Criteria
I. Successful applications:
Will enhance and educate the Wellesley College community
Include all application materials
Have been submitted by the published deadline
Clearly state event title
Explain significance of event for the community
Explain items listed in budget proposal
When necessary, contracts have been reviewed by appropriate CLCE members
II. Amount of funding requested can be reduced under the following circumstances:
Budget details are not carefully constructed.
CLCE has limited funding and is not able to match the entire request.
Application lacks significant co-sponsorship.
III. Applications can be rejected without a chance of re-submission under the following circumstances:
The proposed event does not appear to educate and/or enrich the Wellesley College community and therefore will not satisfy the mission of the CLCE
Funding is being asked for an event that has already occurred.
An Honor Code violation occurred in the submission of the proposal (e.g., falsification of relevant event information, plagiarism, etc.)
