CWS Travel Grants provides funding to support short-term community service projects during Wintersession, Spring Break AND Summer.
Examples of projects funded in the past:
- You want to take part in an community service project and need funding for travel expenses (i.e. plane tickets, subway passes, etc.).
- You want to take part in a wintersessions or spring break service project and need assistance in paying for your own room and board.
Award: Up to $750 per student (Awards typically range from $500-$750). Students are only eligible for one travel grant during their time as a Wellesley student.
Eligibility: All full-time students and Davis Scholars currently enrolled in classes on the Wellesley College campus are eligible. Due to the large number of applications we receive, priority is given to students who have not received funding from the CWS in the past. **Students are only eligible to receive one grant during their time at Wellesley.**
Limitations and exclusions: This money may only be used for programs that are directly related to service. Funding CANNOT be used to pay for:
- academic programs including coursework
- study abroad/exchange
- English teaching programs
- independent study
- conference attendance
- program participation fees (including programs that require a participation fee)
Money cannot be transferred to another project, and unused money must be returned to the fund. No applications will be considered for reimbursement of expenses incurred prior to the time of the application.
Students needing funding for local daily transportation expenses during the fall and spring semester to a volunteer site should review the CWS Transportation webpage (http://www.wellesley.edu/cws/serves/transportation) before proceeding.
Priority will be given to students applying for CWS Travel Grants to fund service in the United States. Please note that Wellesley students are not normally awarded funding to pursue a community service project or an internship in a country with a current U.S. Department of State Travel Warning. Requests for exceptions to this policy are considered on a case-by-case basis by the College's Safety Committee. Students must provide a letter of support from a faculty member as well as a completed Safety Petition Request. Students going abroad should visit the U.S. Department of State Web site.
