Friends of Art DC: Talk with Laurie Wilson '62

Thursday, January 5, 2017 - 6:30pm
Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C.

Please join Friends of Art DC for a talk and book signing with Laurie Wilson '62 for her recently published biography, LOUISE NEVELSON: Light and Shadow, which examines the life and works of the artist.

Wilson drew on personal interviews with Nevelson and the artist’s colleagues, friends, and family members to write the book.  Her involvement with Nevelson dates back to the 1970s when she spent fifteen hours interviewing the artist for her doctoral dissertation, Louise Nevelson Iconography and Sources (1976), which was subsequently published in the series: Outstanding Dissertations in the Fine Arts.  Wilson has also written over a dozen chapters, articles and essays on Nevelson for professional journals and publications, including essays for the 1980 retrospective at the Whitney Museum and the catalogue essay for an exhibit at the Phoenix Museum of Art.

A book signing will follow her presentation.  Following the book signing, we will join Laurie and her husband for a dutch-treat dinner at Nopa Kitchen & Bar.  For dinner reservations, please RSVP to Lia Dawley at lia.dawley@gmail.com.

Event costs: There is no cost to attend the lecture. Dinner is dutch treat.

Registering for the Event: If you'd like to attend the dinner, please email Lia Dawley at lia.dawley@gmail.com. There is no need to reserve a spot for the lecture but feel free to let Lia know you are coming even if you can't stay for dinner.
