WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Davis Museum recently welcomed 10 new interns for the twelfth season of the prestigious Davis Summer Internship Program.  Working in departments throughout the museum in a program that lasts ten weeks, the interns will gain an in-depth view of the art world and museum professions.

Chosen from a competitive pool of applicants, all interns at the Davis are current or recently graduated students of Wellesley College.  Emily Zhao ’17 (Princeton Junction, NJ), Gaia Lettere ’15 (Hanover, NH), Ningyi Xi ’17 (Hangzhou, China), and Hannah Augst ’17 (Richmond, VA) are working in the curatorial department, Flor Gutierrez ’15 (Pomona, CA) is working on collections care and management, Carrington OBrion ’15 (Richmond, VA) is working on interpretive programming, Sheree Liu ’17 (Warren, NJ) and Belle Noonan ’17 (Providence, RI) are working with technology, and Kathryn Griffith ’15 (Simsbury, CT) is the Eleanor P. DeLorme Intern.   

Intern Coordinator, Hannah Levine ‘15 (Redlands, CA), is returning from last year’s program and has worked over the course of the past academic year to plan the internship.  The students come from diverse backgrounds with majors ranging from art history to classical civilizations, anthropology, economics, and media arts and sciences.  

The program consists of individual research projects, career workshops, and on-site visits to art institutions where interns are introduced to art professionals, many of whom are Wellesley College alumnae.  This year, Public and Interpretive Programs Specialist, Liz Gardner, and Intern Coordinator, Hannah Levine, have planned visits to multiple regional New England museums including the Harvard Art Museum, the Rhode Island School of Design, the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, and the New Bedford Whaling Museum.  The interns will also spend several days in New York City visiting museums, viewing galleries, and attending a Friends of Art dinner.  The internship is graciously funded by the Wellesley College Friends of Art, who are celebrating their 50^th anniversary this year.
