Still Cagey after 100 years

In honor of his centennial, critic Debra Cash reviews “Prepared Box for John Cage” in her essay on several activities being held in honor of John Cage this winter.

She starts out her review with a wonderful quote from Cage…

“I can’t understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I’m frightened of the old ones — John Cage to Richard Kostelanetz, 1988

An eclectic assortment of material, Prepared Box for John Cage explores the influence of Cage’s teaching, writings, and music on 20th-century visual art, music, poetry, dance, and film.  The exhibition is on view in the Morelle Lasky Levine ’56 Works on Paper Gallery through June 9.
