Resources for Faculty at the Davis
The Davis Museum’s encyclopedic collections form an extraordinary resource at the core of Wellesley College’s rich liberal arts education. The Davis is committed to sustaining teaching and learning at Wellesley across academic disciplines by providing access to its holdings and dynamic temporary exhibitions. Davis curators can advise on incorporating gallery-based teaching into the curricula of faculty as well as help to craft object-based assignments that utilize the Davis Museum’s great diversity of art objects.
Bring Your Classes to the Davis
Self-guided visits can be scheduled during regular museum hours and by appointment. For guided visits to the Davis’ galleries contact Yuhua Ding, Kemper Assistant Curator of Collections and Academic Affairs, 781.283.2353, yd102@wellesley.edu. We encourage faculty to schedule an advance meeting to discuss their goals for a class visit. Visit hours (Monday through Friday, 9:00am - 4:45pm)
Visit the Print Study Room
Objects not on display--including our extensive collection of drawings, prints, and photographs--are available to faculty, classes, and individuals for viewing by appointment only in our Print Study Room.
The Study Gallery
The Study Gallery allows for sustained engagement with works that would otherwise not be on view, selected in support of specific courses. The installation in this rotating gallery at the Davis changes every semester, on request of faculty.
Additional Resources
The Davis keeps documents related to each object in the collections, and invites members of the Wellesley community to research these dossiers by appointment. The Museum offers a schedule of exhibitions, symposia, lectures, and other programs specifically geared toward the Wellesley campus community. We seek to develop and coordinate this programming in conjunction with courses, and welcome invitations to collaborate with faculty across the College.
OVERVIEW: The Maryam and Edward Eisler/Goldman Sachs Gives Fund on Art and Visual Culture in the Near, Middle, and Far East (“The Eisler Fund”) was established to build a multi-faceted interdisciplinary program that draws heavily on the collections-based, curatorial, scholarly, and pedagogical resources of the Davis Museum and the Wellesley College Art Department, to study art through the ages in the Near- Middle- and Far East.
