Mitsu Okada (1902-1905)

Miss Mitsu Okada studied as a special student at Wellesley College for three years, from 1902-1905. She had been a teacher at Jokoshi (Normal School for Women) in Tokyo, and was sent by the government to study English language and literature abroad.

Articles from The Wellesley News found in the Wellesley College Digital Scholarship and Archive include letters written by Miss Okada recording her return trip to Japan and some of the work she completed after her return.

  • Taught upper-level English classes at Jokoshi with Kin Kato, another Wellesley student (1888-89)
    • In 1907, led English work at Jokoshi in Tokyo
  • Taught at the Peer's School for Girls
  • Worked with the YWCA (the Young Women's Christian Association) in Tokyo

Okada passed away in 1940.
