Parent Programs and Opportunities for Involvement
The Parents Fund exists to enhance the College’s commitment to providing an excellent liberal arts education for women who will make a difference in the world. Every year, hundreds of parents join Wellesley alumnae and friends to support the College with an annual gift. Contributions to The Parents Fund support every aspect of a Wellesley education including our ability to provide extraordinary learning opportunities and offer financial aid to every student who needs it. Every gift makes a difference, no matter the size, and is put immediately to use in service of our students and faculty. Please consider making your gift to The Parents Fund today.
The Durant Society
The Durant Society, named in honor of Wellesley College founders, Pauline and Henry Durant, is a loyal and generous circle of alumnae, parents, and friends whose leadership giving and enthusiastic commitment to Wellesley College plays a vital role in ensuring the fiscal health of the College. All gifts of $2,500 or more made in this fiscal year ending June 30—including outright gifts, monthly installment gifts, matching gifts, and planned gifts—qualify a donor for inclusion in the Durant Society.
Durant Society members experience opportunities to deepen connections with the College. Parent members are invited to attend Durant Society events at the President’s House during Friends & Family Weekend, Commencement, and other regional and on-campus Durant Society events. Members are also invited to hear the latest academic and student news from College leadership via conference call twice annually.
Wellesley Parents Council Volunteers
The Parents Council is the volunteer organization for all of Wellesley’s parent outreach efforts and offers opportunities for parents to engage in a relationship with the College that is independent from their student. Volunteers serve as liaisons for Wellesley’s almost 4,000 current parents and active past parents, representing their interests while supporting the College’s strategic initiatives and enhancing the experience of all our students. Volunteers are asked to support the College with an annual gift to the Parents Fund. Please consider joining our volunteer community.
- Parents Fund Committee -Volunteers assist the College in generating much-needed annual gifts from parents and families of Wellesley students. They are asked to contact other Wellesley parents at one or two points during the fiscal year to invite them to support Wellesley.
- Parent Welcome and Outreach Committee- Volunteers make welcome phone calls to incoming families and/or volunteer at on-campus family programs such as Family & Friends Weekend. Many parents act as ambassadors of the College and volunteer to host events for parents, alumnae and prospective students. Events may feature College faculty or administrators and are a wonderful way to help the College connect with the Wellesley community in your area.
- Parent Career Network Committee - Volunteers help build the Wellesley Network by offering career resources for Wellesley students and alumnae. We expect that volunteer opportunities will include providing internships, participating in industry-focused information panels, and offering one-on-one career advice for students.
Parents Leadership Committee
Led by Parents Council Co-Chairs, this committee consists of Parents Council volunteers who provide annual financial support to the Parents Fund (or College) at a leadership level ($2,500 or more). The members of the PLC form the foundation for the Parents Fund each year, are leaders of other parent volunteer efforts, and play an important role in encouraging other Wellesley families to participate. In addition to membership in the Durant Society, PLC members are invited to attend Parents Council Meetings, including one held during Family & Friends Weekend and one held in the spring, featuring social and informational activities.
