Russia NOW

The Current State of the Former Soviet Union

Thursday, September 10, 2015 - 8:00pm
Margaret Clapp Library Lecture Room

A defiantly resurgent Russia has faced economic sanctions and declining oil prices to consolidate its gains in Ukraine, strengthen its ties to China, and confront the West with a determination to pursue a policy of protecting its national interests in the former Soviet space along with a rhetoric of blaming the United States for its many woes. This year’s annual Russian Area Studies faculty panel on “Russia NOW” will shed light on our planet’s largest country in a time fraught with dangerous tensions.

Participants include Professor Thomas Hodge, Russian Department; Professor Igor Logvinenko, Political Science Department; and Professor Nina Tumarkin, History Department.

This program is free and open to the public, and is generously supported by the Davis Fund for Russian Area Studies.
