Hacia Cuando / To When: An Opera

Hacia Cuando / To When: An Opera is a collaborative project created through an exquisite corpse exercise between visual artist Daniela Rivera,  (Boston, MA); composer Jenny Olivia Johnson (Los Angeles, CA); sound artist and experimental luthier Javier Bustos (Buenos Aires, Argentina),  tenor Sebastian Muirhead (Santiago, Chile), also a creative and conceptual contributor; and baritone Nicolas Lartaun Oyarzun (Paris, France).

The opera explores migration and memory through the distinct perspectives of each collaborator, weaving together multiple histories into a collective work. Rivera's installation at Mass MoCA functions simultaneously as the stage and the primary musical instrument for the performance, transforming the exhibition into a resonant architectural environment where sound, movement, and visual art become inseparable.

In preparation for the premiere at Mass MoCA, all of the collaborators will gather at Wellesley College for an intensive rehearsal period. This residency presents a unique opportunity to engage the Wellesley community by opening the creative process to the public.
