Images of Brazil
Violinist Francesca Anderegg and Brazilian pianist Erika Ribeiro bring Brazil’s rhythms to life.
Images of Brazil is a project of violinist Francesca Anderegg and pianist Erika Ribeiro: a decade-long collaboration exploring the breadth and depth of Brazilian music.
Praised by the New York Times for her "rich tone and virtuosic panache" and by The Arts Journal for playing of "taste, mastery, sensuality," Anderegg brings warmth and expressive directness to a program that spans samba, choro, frevo, bossa nova, and the grand sweep of Villa-Lobos and Camargo Guarnieri. Erika Ribeiro is one of the most distinctive pianists of her generation in Brazil: a Latin GRAMMY™-nominated artist celebrated for dissolving the boundaries between classical and popular music from within.
Their two albums — Images of Brazil (2018) on Naxos Records and Navigator of Silences (2024), streamed over a million times — were received with critical acclaim that confirmed the project's place in a broader conversation about how classical musicians engage with living musical traditions. "The most delightful disc of Brazilian chamber music to come along in years," wrote Fanfare Magazine. "An intoxicating collection…filled with a deep sense of yearning," wrote CBC Music.
The performance is accompanied by the work of Brazilian photographer Aline Müller — the images behind the music.
This event is free and open to the public.
