In honor of Professor Selwyn Cudjoe’s retirement, the Africana Studies Department is hosting a series of distinguished lectures. The first lecture, “George Padmore and Black Diasporic Intellectual Thought,” will be given by Professor Caroline Elkins on Tuesday, September 26.

Dr. Caroline Elkins is a Professor of History and African and African American Studies at Harvard University. Her first book, “Imperial Reckoning: The Untold Story of Britain's Gulag in Kenya,” was awarded the Pulitzer Prize and selected as a “Book of the Year” by The Economist. Her subsequent book, “Legacy of Violence” was selected by The New York Times as one of the notable 100 Books of 2022.
